چکیده

Wild and farmed animals are key elements of natural managed ecosystems that deliver functions such as pollination, pest control nutrient cycling within the broader roles they play in contributing to biodiversity every category ecosystem services. They subjected global changes with a profound impact on range viability animal species, emergence spatial distribution pathogens, land use, services farming sustainability. We urgently need improve our understanding how populations can respond adaptively therefore sustainably these new selective pressures. In this context, we explored common points between production science ecology identify promising avenues synergy communities through transfer concepts and/or methodologies, focusing seven link both disciplines. Animal adaptability, diversity (both species), selection, management, monitoring, agroecology risks were identified should serve cross-fertilization fields resilience The for breaking down interdisciplinary barriers is illustrated by two representative examples: i) circulation reassortment pathogens wild domestic ii) role cycles, i.e. recycling nitrogen, phosphorus carbon through, example, contribution soil fertility sequestration. Our synthesis identifies knowledge integration techniques supported programmes policy tools reverse fragmentation research toward unification into single Research Kinship, OneARK, which sets objectives future policy. At interface science, article promotes an effective application concept use functional increase systems. It also novel monitoring technologies quantify welfare factors affecting fitness. These measures needed evaluate risk, predict potentially adaptability management systems, thereby responding increasing demand society development sustainable

Human and animal health: strengthening the links

Editor—The avian flu threat shows the importance of links between the medical and veterinary professions, but the debate needs to extend into the hidden costs of current food policy. Food policy is still excessively reliant on market efficiencies, by minimising price and maximising choice. Although the obesity epidemic has brought the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and World Health Org...

Animal board invited review: advances in proteomics for animal and food sciences

Animal production and health (APH) is an important sector in the world economy, representing a large proportion of the budget of all member states in the European Union and in other continents. APH is a highly competitive sector with a strong emphasis on innovation and, albeit with country to country variations, on scientific research. Proteomics (the study of all proteins present in a given ti...

Nutrigenomics and its Applications in Animal Science

Nutrigenomics applies genomic technologies to study how nutrients affect expression of genes. With the advent of the post genomic era and with the use of functional genomic tools, the new strategies for evaluating the effects of nutrition on production efficiency and nutrient utilization are becoming available. Nutrigenomics plays an efficient role in various fields of animal health like nutrit...

Animal Board Invited Review: Comparing conventional and organic livestock production systems on different aspects of sustainability

To sustainably contribute to food security of a growing and richer world population, livestock production systems are challenged to increase production levels while reducing environmental impact, being economically viable, and socially responsible. Knowledge about the sustainability performance of current livestock production systems may help to formulate strategies for future systems. Our stud...

Animal Ecology

Every animal is (1,2) closely linked with a number of other animals living round it, and these relations in an animal community are largely food relations. (3) Man himself is in the centre of such an animal community, as is shown by his relations to plague-carrying rats and (4) to malaria or the diseases of his domestic animals, e.g. liver-rot in sheep. (5) The dependence of man upon other anim...
